A nipa hut is a home built on stilts that is indigenous to the Philippines.
Lola raised her two daughters in the very same nipa hut where she was born. She told me that sampaguitas grew in the front of her home, and I wonder if those flowers witnessed her birth, swaddling newborn Lola in their fragrance—welcoming and sweet.
