Fresh California bay laurel stems - housewarming gift, wonderful aromatic wreath-making, cooking spices, rustic home decor
Fresh California Bay Laurel stems with leaves, this is a perfect gift for someone who loves to cook, or a treat to brighten up your kitchen! The assembled bundle is about 11 inches long and about 7 inches wide, and makes a gorgeous housewarming gift. This is not the Greek bay leaf (Laurus nobilis) commonly sold at the stores, but the harder to find California bay laurel (Umbellularia californica). I harvest right before shipping, so the stems are incredibly fresh and smell amazing! Comes nicely arranged with eco-friendly and moisture conserving bouquet wrap and floral paper. The bundle itself is tied at the base with floral tape and wire and a satin ribbon. (If you prefer the stems loose, just let me know!)
If you have not cooked with this plant before, use about half as much as you do of storebought bay leaves in your recipe. It gives a robust and satisfying flavor to soups, beans, and other hearty dishes. In addition to its use as a cooking spice, the Karok, Mendocino, Pomo, and other Indigenous tribes use the leaves for various medicinal functions. Toss a few into a fire to fill the house with a cleansing scent, or hang the bundle on the showerhead to help combat cold symptoms. Once dried, you can put the leaves in a paper bag and tuck them into a drawers to keep out insects.
