Frida legend card reads... Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907 in the small town of Coyoacan on the outskirts of Mexico City. She lived in her parent's home known as La Casa Azul or The Blue House. At age 6 Kahlo was stricken with polio and at 18 while a medical student, she was seriously injured in a trolley accident. During her recovery, Frida began painting to occupy her time. She then gave up her studies to concentrate solely on her artwork. Much of the physical pain she suffered and her tumultuous marriage to famed Mexican painter Diego Rivera is reflected in her 55 self-portraits. She painted using vibrant colors and symbolism influenced by the indigenous cultures of Mexico and European styles of Realism and Surrealism.
