Ancient growth redwood bowl
This absolutely lovely piece of redwood was hand-harvested by yours truly from an old logging stump on private property in the Santa Cruz mountains.
The stump had been there since at least the 1870s, and was easily 12 feet wide. After a somewhat treacherous trip down a gulley with a chainsaw, then back up with this blank in hand, it now awaits its new home.
Harvested from the very top of the stump, this bowl shows off just how dense these ancient trees can be. Between the growth rings are mineral deposits collected from over a century and a half of rainfall. They make for a beautiful shimmer in the bottom of the bowl.
This bowl measures 8" across and 3" deep and is protected with a food-safe finish.
