SJMADE at The Mayferia
December 9, 2016
Mexican heritage Plaza
1700 Alum Rock Ave, San Jose, CA 95116
ATTENTION: If you’re an artist, designer, illustrator or someone who makes and sells things with their hands...
San Jose Made (SJMADE) along with School of Arts and Culture at Mexican Heritage Plaza is looking for four to six local craft makers (people who make jewelry, apparel, illustrated prints, greeting cards, toys, ceramics, home goods, accessories, handcrafted goods, etc.) to sell their locally made goods at The Mayferia’s 2016 winter holiday event on Dec. 9, 2016.
Funded by John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in 2016, The Mayeria seeks to increase civic engagement, expand economic opportunity and strengthen social cohesion through folklife events and shared community projects.
If selected to vend at The Mayferia, the makers will not have to pay a booth fee. They each will also receive a $100 stipend in exchange for offering up an interactive or educational element at their booth which could be but is not limited to:
- Makers who provide educational walkthroughs on their entrepreneurial experience in turning their art into sellable products and in turn, creating viable and scalable businesses
- Artists and illustrators who do live drawing or live painting sessions OR drawing or painting tutorials
- Food makers performing demonstrations that highlight the importance of ingredients and craft
- Makers who sell customizable and personalizable versions of their goods
We see this as an amazing opportunity for makers to sell their work and at the same time, help grow and expand San Jose's maker culture while increasing the visibility and excitement throughout its community!
